Adoption Ceremony

We traveled back to the Adoption Center today to finish some documents, get our family photo, and our "red book".  We had a ceremony to present us with the official documentation showing that we are approved to adopt Zac, called the "red book".  We also get a photo book on Friday before we leave Chongqing documenting the ceremony, including photos of the area and of Zac's orphanage.  DeAnna knew there was going to be a ceremony, but didn't realize how big a step it was symbolically until it was happening.  She teared up pretty quickly and had a hard time holding it together.  This week in Chongqing is basically the China side of the adoption.  Next week in Guangzhou is the American side.  So today was a very big day!  We will spend tomorrow sight-seeing before we visit the orphanage on Thursday.  Friday we pick up Zac's Chinese passport and head to Guangzhou!

    1. So happy to help! It has been an emotional whirlwind! Is your son from the Children's Welfare Institute of Chongqing City? We will be visiting on Thursday and taking pictures. Maybe you could spot your son in one?

    2. Yes, he is! He just turned 2 and has an extra thumb on his right hand. Maybe you can spot him :) He's Rawlins from the Lifeline list. (Oh, and I found your blog from the Huttos. We live in Chelsea.)

    4. We mentioned to our guide that we want to try to find your son tomorrow. He said we might need his Chinese name. If you feel comfortable, email us @ mail.horton@gmail.com and we will see what we can do!

  4. Hello,
Wonderful story! My name is Angelica and I am a nursing student. I am taking a sociology class and am doing a visual essay. I've been reading your blog as a different more personal king of research and I am glad I found it ! The topic I chose was different ways to become a parent. Would you mind if i used your pictures? They display exactly what I'm writing about as far as becoming a parent by adoption. They would only be used and seen by my instructors and fellow students. Thank you for sharing your journey!
